Boys For Breakfast...

No not literally...I am not a maneater I love my partner even if he desperately needs a haircut.. 'Boys For Breakfast' is a new label I recently came across on Facebook (once again) and the Mix Tape Collection will definately make any boys heart beat out of their chest! The range is stunning.. What I have seen so far, another amazing fact... Its designed here in Australia! I already mentioned on my wishlist that I wanted one of her items... and I have just paid for it so I can't wait to recieve it... Here is her Mixtape AW10 Collection...

I sent her an e-mail to find out a bit more... see it below!!

So where are you from?
Sam; I'm from Queensland, Gold Coast but GC doesn't have much fashion credibility aha so maybe just say Qld
(I disagree...She's the prime example of fashion credibility for the goldcoast)

Where the inspiration for Boys for breakfast came from? What is Boys for breakfast about?
(I am shocking at putting a question or a sentance together)
The inspiration for Boys for Breakfast came from a Niche that I felt the market had for young women to dress and feel mischievous, desired, rebellious, but still fashionable. Basically my mission statement which is 'edgy, mischievous, memorable' is how I want my customers to feel when they are wearing Boys for Breakfast

What made you decide to start 'Boys For Breakfast'?
I've always loved wearing something different, not too extreme but pieces that were noticable in a good way; so I decided to start my own label :)

How long have you been deisgning clothing? Do you model the pieces yourself?
I've been designing since 2008 but my range 'The Mix Tape' was my first actual collection. My friends modelled my current collection but I will be modelling my next range along with them :)
(The girls are just grogeous!)

Do you have a career in the fashion industry or is this your little escape for now?
I work in retail at the moment but when Boys for Breakfast has enough income for me to work on it full time I will definately be doing that!
(Neon Blonde is all about promoting independent designers that I love Boy's For Breakfast is definately one of them... I hope Sam can do this full time soon...)

Whats the process of designing and creating an item?
You start by researching trends, although most of my designs aren't based on trends I still take note on what colours are in fashion overseas. As they are 6 months ahead of us in terms of fashion, it is easy to research trends that will be arriving in Australia later on. From there, I start drawing and drawing and drawing. If there is a particular sleeve that I have come across in a magazine, I will draw a dress with that particular sleeve, and continuously draw the dress with different hem lines, details ie pockets, frills, layers, zippers, studs, chain, and then experiment with different colours (the colours included in the range are usually chosen before you start drawing).

Once I have drawn about 20 different styles, I analyse them to chose the best 5 outfits. From there, I draw my chosen 5 outfits again and again to make it look like a range, for example, I will change the colour of a dress so that it ties in with the skirt, or I will make a top similar to the dress etc. I break my collection down into 3 stories, so I will do the same as previously mentioned for the 5 outfit, three times, and then once all three stories have been designed, I re-evaluate and make changes so that it all ties in as a collection. Then it's a matter of chosing fabric, doing the pattern-making then getting the samples made :)
(wow... Long process but definately rewarding)

And I decided to finish it up with her style icons... because Sam is going to be very busy in the future and I didnt want to take up too much of her time :)
My style icons would definately have to be the Olsen Twins, Nicole Richie, and Taylor Jacobson (from the Rachel Zoe project).

I think you should keep your eyes peeled for Boys for Breakfast as I hope to see alot more!
All pieces are made to order, if you would like anything from the 'Mix Tape' Collection
