Jitterbug, Color Bugs

I’ve posted about cotton candy hued hair a number of times, my hair is in such poor condition I really don’t think some vibrant colour would change it all that much... But then again I just wanted a quick fix... Nothing was really available until now. If you follow me on twitter or instagram you already know what’s coming... I have been raving on and on about Colour Bugs... Thing is they weren’t available in Perth up until last week. That’s about the same time they became available online too. During Perth Fashion Festival I was cheating, I was using crushed up eye shadow (strong pigment) to give me the coloured dip dyed ends I had during the festival, I got the idea from Hayley after seeing her powdered ends... She achieved the colour by using a Color Bug...

Check out how Kevin Murphy does it with eye shadow here...

This week I have had pink & purple ombre ends for most of the week, surprisingly everyone at work took it well so it meant I could play with colour some more. Chantelle mentioned the colour may stick to my hair more because I am so blonde... I picked up some leave in treatment too that should prevent it from sticking as much... After my first wash I didn’t really shampoo my ends (I was putting more colour bug on) but after I was out I had delightfully pastel pink ends and it didn’t bother me at all. I’m sure after a couple of washes it would be fine, I reccomend if you are really worried about it staining your hair you only lightly put it in!
As for those with darker hues I don’t think it would stain your hair whatsoever!
A fair few of my twitter & instagram buddies have been asking how I have gotten my hair like this. How can they get color bugs? What is a color bug? And does it work on dark hair? First of all... I tested it out today on my mate from work who has thick black/brown hair; she also has extensions & the color bug worked! Now onto the application
I picked up two color bugs from Viva La Blonde Salon on Murray St... Pretty sure its the only Perth stokist at the moment... See Chantelle and check out the other gorgeous Kevin Murphy products. I also picked up a leave in spray conditioner which was meant to act as a barrier for the colour, It has helped a bit! but my hair does feel gorgeous.. Oh you can style your hair afterwards too!

My hair after a 'light' shampoo
I’m thinking I could even put the colour all through my hair and then wash it out to have all over pastel pink hair!

Now this does get messy... well maybe more for those with shoulder length hair, but I reccomend you place a towel around your neck... it gets all over your hands too, so this is best done in the bathroom! I find it really quite simple to use... Its a bit harder around the back because my hair is so short, but I tye it up and that makes it easier, today I convinced the boy to help me out!

To spice things up a bit, add hairspray to make the colour hold and for it to become more vibrant, you can also work it into wax, even mix the colours for a different effect!

Word on the street is that Kevin Murphy is working on a few more colours... I'm holding out for Turquoise, until then I can continue to use eye shadows as hair shadows... Simple, fun, colour that washes out... Cheap as chips at $25 definitely great for when you want something a little fun!

And after all those months of wanting pastel pink or lilac hair... I finally can!
WIN!

  6. I'm impressed ! I love that mix of blonde hair and pink/purple. But, I think, it's probably impossible to get Colorbug in Poland.
